Course Prerequisites

Exclusive to Master of Science in Supply Chain Management students only.  Students in good standing who have completed INSC 70430, 70610, 7630, 70640 required.

Compare and Contrast two different yet emerging Asian countries. Explore opportunities and challenges of conducting business in Asia, including the unique culture nuances that affect local and cross-cultural working relationships (e.g., leadership, teamwork) as well as the intricacies of sourcing from local and regional suppliers and delivering to customers worldwide.  Learn about the critical resources, supply-based capabilities, leadership and management challenges, marketing principles, and current trading environment of Vietnam and China. Explore transportation infrastructure issues, legal restrictions, requirements for doing business, and unique environmental and societal opportunities. Witness firsthand the complexities and challenges of marketing, innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership in these countries while contemplating the historical, political, economic and cultural trends and norms in Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai

Itinerar
Day 1: Depart for Vietnam

Day 2: Arrive Ho Chi Minh Vietnam. Cultural visits and welcome dinner.
Day 3: Cultural event: full-day trip to Mekong Delta South of Ho Chi Minh City are the flat, verdant planes of the Mekong Delta, where much of Vietnam’s rice crop is grown. There are several towns in this region from which you can take boat trips on the many tributaries of the Mekong. On this trip, you will have the chance to see locals’ way of life; their homes , transportation, work and traditions . You will also see the fertile and unique rice fields and its huge plantations that make up the core of this region’s economy. Explore natural creeks and quiet villages, visit orchards , a bee keeping house, taste honey tea and seasonal fruits then enjoy the traditional music. You will also take a horse cart and see the amazing coconut candy production process.
Day 4: Business Visits:  What fuels economic expansion  (Ex.  furniture company, garment manufacturer)
Day 5: Business Visits. Supply Chain Excellence (Ex. technology company, personal goods manufacturer)
Day 6: Fly to Shanghai. Afternoon tour of Shanghai.
Day 7: Business visits:  Innovation in Business.
Day 8: Business visits:  What makes Asia a great place for business
Day 9: Depart Shanghai. (travel home or on your own to Beijing and Great Wall or Hong Kong). 

 

Cost
The majority of the costs associated with this trip are included in the MS in Supply Chain Management student fees.

  • Included: Textbooks and materials, hotel accommodations (2 students per room), transportation within country, all breakfasts and some lunches, welcome and farewell dinners, expenses related to company visits and lectures.
  • Not included: TCU tuition, airfare to Ho Chi Minh City and returning from Shanghai, airport taxes, passports or tourist visas, some meals and personal expenses
  • Guest fee: $2,400

Travel Arrangements
Students should not purchase flight tickets or make other irrevocable travel arrangements until they have received communication from the faculty member(s) leading the trip.
