Discover the economic and cultural intricacies of China. Explore the opportunities and challenges of sourcing from local and regional suppliers and delivering to customers worldwide. Learn about critical resources, supply-based capabilities and trading environment. Explore transportation infrastructure issues, legal restrictions and requirements for doing business, while examining unique societal, economic, political and cultural trends and norms. You will visit both U.S. and Chinese businesses, plus wondrous sites such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Shanghai Tower, the Yu Garden and more.

Tentative Itinerary:

Day 1 –Tuesday May 14 – Depart for Beijing, China
Day 2 Beijing: Arrive in Beijing in the afternoon. Welcome Dinner and Program Orientation.
Day 3 Beijing: Fun/Cultural Day – Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City visit in the morning, Great Wall Visit in the afternoon. Lunch provided.
Day 4 Beijing: Business visits Day. Lunch provided.
Day 5 Beijing: Summer Palace visit in the morning. Unstructured free time in the afternoon. Lunch provided.
Day 6 Beijing/Shanghai: Travel from Beijing to Shanghai by High Speed Train (1st-class seats)
Day 7 Shanghai: Fun/Cultural Day – Visit Shanghai Bund, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, and Yu Garden in Old Shanghai town. Acrobatics Show in the evening.
Day 8 Shanghai: Business visits Day. Lunch provided. Huangpu River Cruise in the evening.
Day 9 Shanghai: Business and University visit Day. Lunch provided
Day 10 Shanghai: Business visits Day. Lunch provided. Farewell Dinner in the evening.
Day 11: Shanghai: Unstructured Free Day to Explore Shanghai. Various options suggested.
Day 12:Depart for USA

Prerequisites: This course is only available to TCU business majors who completed INSC 30313 with a grade of C or better and have an overall GPA of 2.8 or higher. This course fills the requirements for Global Awareness Core and/or Cultural Awareness Core.

Fees: Cost is $2,350 and includes accommodations, all breakfasts, most lunches, and two formal dinners, High Speed Train from Beijing to Shanghai, tour/entrance/guide fees, company visits, pre-departure books and classes. Not included: TCU tuition, airfare to and from China, passport or visa, some lunches, evening meals, personal spending money. Full payment is due by the January deadline.

Class Limit: For an optimal experience, class is limited to the first 20 students approved by the faculty.

Deposit: A non-refundable $500 deposit is due with the Application by the November deadline. The deposit is part of the total fee for the program. The rest of the fee is due in full by the January deadline.
