2011 MAC GRADS EARN ELITE INTERNSHIPS WITH FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING FOUNDATION

Mallory King and Meagan Wayland, who will graduate from the Master of Accounting (MAc) program in May, have been awarded prestigious internships with the Financial Accounting Foundation in Norwalk, CT, beginning in January 2012. This is the first time the Neeley School has had two grads awarded these hard-to-get posts. Matt Kubic (BBA ’08 MAc ’09) was awarded a position in 2009.

Mallory will be a postgraduate technical assistant at the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Meagan Wayland will be a postgraduate technical assistant at the Government Accounting Standards Board.

“These positions are extremely hard to come by,” said Ray Pfieffer, Chair of the Accounting Department at the Neeley School. “Meagan and Mallory were competing with the best students from the best programs in the country for a total of about a dozen positions. The fact that TCU MAc grads claimed two positions in the same year is a great tribute to our students, our faculty, and our programs.”

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) establishes and improves standards of financial accounting and reporting for nongovernmental entities. The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) sets standards of financial accounting and reporting for state and local governmental units.

During the one-year internships, Mallory and Meagan will participate in all phases of major standard-setting issues, doing research, analysis, and even presentations of arguments before the Boards.
