TCU Students In Free Enterprise Team Wins First Prize in International Competition

FORT WORTH, Texas (November 17, 2005) - A team from the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization in the Neeley School of Business at TCU garnered the first place trophy at the Rumble by the River Consulting Case Competition last week at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. The team, which also took home a $2,000 prize for the win, competed against 15 universities, including a former national championship team and nine teams that were regional champions.

The TCU SIFE competitors included Nagesh Hatti, Isela Rodriguez, and Xi Zhu, with research support provided by Baronda Bradley, Lindsay Cook, Josue Lopez, Marta Mogollon, and Emily Tate. The team's faculty advisor, Dr. Ted Legatski of the Neeley School of Business, accompanied the students to the event.

According to Dr. Legatski, the TCU SIFE members were ready to put their business skills to the test. "The team developed a comprehensive proposal that gave the judges everything they asked for and more," says Legatski. "I think the 'more' really separated them from the rest of the competitors. The quality of the proposal was truly outstanding."

Rumble by the River is an international business case competition that involves performing analyses and making recommendations that address specific needs of the client organization. Each team was charged with developing a logo and brand identity, a comprehensive marketing plan, site selection, building requirements and architectural renderings, interactive web portal, growth strategy, and budgets and investor proposals for the client. The team then presents both a written and an oral presentation of its recommendations to a panel of judges, which consists of professors and business leaders, as well as the principals of the client firm.

SIFE is a global non-profit organization that mobilizes university students to create economic opportunity for others while discovering their own potential. SIFE students form teams on their university campuses and develop outreach projects that teach entrepreneurship, market economics, business ethics and finance in their communities.
