WALK ON WALL STREET GIVES MBAS A LOOK INSIDE NYSE

Neeley MBAs recently visited New York to get an inside look at how Wall Street works. Each year, Neeley Graduate Career Services organizes the Walk On Wall Street so finance students can experience the business environment of some of the nation's leading financial institutions and meet top executives from those companies.

Through alumni contacts and special corporate relationships, Neeley MBA finance students visited Societe Generale, Bloomberg, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, Deutsch Bank, Merrill Lynch and the New York Stock Exchange.

Brian O'Reagan and Robert Duffy of Fidelity Investments hosted the students for lunch and a tour of the NYSE. TCU Alum Bryan Transou arranged a brief meeting with John Thain, then-CEO of the NYSE and now CEO of Merrill Lynch, as well as an after-hours VIP tour of Ground Zero.

Neeley alum Bob McCann of Merrill Lynch (pictured here with the TCU MBA students) took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the students.

"He went to great lengths to be sure he had our tour on his calendar so he could be there to talk to the students," said Shirley Rasberry, Director of Graduate Career Services. "He was very motivational and proud of his TCU degree."

The New York experience was capped off with the Neeley Annual Alumni dinner held at the NYSE. Alumni from across the New York area attended, giving the MBA students a chance to network and discuss career options. Duffy spoke briefly on the NYSE and the trading floor. Finance Professor Larry Lockwood, MBA Professor of the Year, spoke on "When Emotions Overtake Reason in the Stock Market."

The host committee for the event included: Drew Flahive BBA 01, Sol Kanthack BBA 94, Mike Herman BBA 80 MBA 90, Cori Nemec BBA 07, Vanessa Gomez BBA 99, and Justin Potter MBA 06.

"It's important for recruiters to not only see resumes and references, but also see first-hand the quality of students we have at Neeley," said Rasberry. "The Neeley School places an incredible amount of importance on personalizing the recruitment process so that companies find the right student for the job."
