A recent feature in The Dallas Morning News highlighted a new undergraduate course at the TCU Neeley School of Business inspired in part by the filming of the hit TV series Landman on campus.

The story focuses on “Land Management and Land Administration,” a seminar created by Tom Seng, an energy finance professor in the Neeley School of Business and a member of TCU’s Ralph Lowe Energy Institute. While the course draws inspiration from the popular series, its focus is firmly academic, teaching students what it truly means to work as a landman.

The eight-week course introduces students to land management across oil, gas, wind and solar development, separating Hollywood portrayals from industry reality. The seminar also prepares students for professional certification through the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and brings practicing landmen, including TCU alumni, into the classroom.

The news article notes growing interest among students and employers in land management education, underscoring Neeley’s approach to connecting timely cultural moments with career-relevant learning.
