Learning Objectives

An understanding of financial accounting is essential for anyone who will use financial information for decision-making. Financial statements provide key information about the economic activities and financial position of a firm. The summer online accounting module will provide you with the foundational knowledge required to understand financial information. You should complete the summer online accounting module to prepare you for the ACCT 60010 course.

You will be asked to learn the summer module material at a very rapid pace during the first two weeks of your ACCT 60010 course. Familiarity with the basic knowledge presented in the summer financial accounting module will significantly reduce your workload and stress level during the first two weeks of your first fall semester in the MBA program. I strongly encourage you to spend some time working with the material presented in the summer financial accounting module.

Students who complete the summer online accounting module will have the following knowledge and skills necessary for success in ACCT 60010:

  1. An understanding of accounting terminology, the language of business
  2. An understanding of the information provided on the four financial statements
  3. The ability to record basic business transactions and work in a T account

"The Financial Accounting summer module is an absolute necessity for students who do not have an undergraduate business degree or English is a second language." (Previous MBA students)
